In Italy, whose extra-virgin olive oil is increasingly appreciated, even abroad, the sector’s experts are keeping a particular watch on the region of Lazio, which is beginning to emerge as a consistent winner in many of the principal professional competitions.
There are various areas dedicated to olive cultivation and the primary cultivators are Frantoio, Leccino, Rosciola, Pendolino, Maurino, Minutella and Itrana.
Lazio now boasts four DOP regions (the mark that signifies a product originating from a protected denomination): Sabina, Colline Pontine, Canino and Tuscia, and Lazio now has over 300 olive mills.
Among the numerous agricultural companies that offer excellent products, some outstanding ones are Alfredo Cetrone, with its Dop Colline Pontine that is characterised by fruity notes that hint at apples and bananas, along with scents of sage and mint, and it meets the palate with slightly bitter and spicy tastes.
Also noteworthy is the organic company Quattrociocchi and, in particular their l’Olivastro Monocultivar Itrana Bio that expresses complex olfactory notes of tomato, celery and basil, while it reaches the palate with a decisive flavour and a strong personality.
