Are you nuts about nuts? Then you probably know they are great for your health but can cost a pretty penny. The last thing you’d want to do is stock up on your favorite nuts only to have them go rancid. So how do you extend their shelf life? The answer lies in storing them in air-tight containers kept in a cool dark place.
What constitutes a cool place? If you live in a cooler climate the back of your pantry is probably a good fit. However, if you live in a hot place your best bet is store nuts in your refrigerator or freezer.
Here’s why this technique works: exposure to light, air, humidity and warm temperatures accelerate oxidation. The same holds true for seeds so store them correctly and you’ll be able to enjoy them much longer. Nuts will keep well in the fridge for up to six months and in the freezer for up to a year.
