Nothing quite compares to the flavor of a ripe, juicy kiwi. Its pleasant sweetness and hint of tartness make it a great addition to smoothies, fruit salads and desserts. Personally, I love cozying up to a plate of sliced kiwi as a midday snack. It may be delicious but there's one problem plaguing this furry fruit: its thin skin makes it hard to peel.
If you've found yourself frustrated about how to peel and cut a kiwi, no worries. We've rounded up our favorite methods for getting the job done quickly and efficiently. Everyone seems to have their own way of cutting a kiwi but we prefer these two nifty tricks.
HOW TO PEEL CUT A KIWI WITH A SPOON
For this method, you'll need a pairing knife and a spoon. Cut off both ends off the kiwi (ensuring you've cut away all the tough white bits). Then you'll slide a spoon between the flesh and the skin. Slowly work the spoon around the kiwi to release the fruit. It'll slip right off and you'll be able to cut a kiwi into any desired shape.
This video from Pucca Syanu illustrates how it's done:
HOW TO PEEL A KIWI WITH A GLASS
Hands down, this is our favorite method for feeling a kiwi in a flash. There's no need for fancy equipment and the task is accomplished in seconds. Unlike the previous method, you'll slice the kiwi in half lengthwise. Now comes the exciting part: place the kiwi on the rim of a short glass (make sure the rim is right between the skin and the flesh of the fruit) then slide it down. The movement will remove the kiwi's thin skin while leaving the fruit intact. It also works well with mangos and avocados.
