While France is renowned for its fine wines rather than its hops, beer culture is gaining popularity in the hexagon, especially in Paris where bars specialising in beers are usually thronged with beer enthusiasts.
So if you're in the city of light for the Euro 2016 final and looking to soak up the atmosphere as the host country takes to the pitch, there's no reason to go thirsty.
Here are four venues for "bière à la pression" or beer on tap, as well as a range of artisanal beers, where you will be able to wet your whistle while waiting for kick off.
Where to Drink Beer in Paris
1. The Fine Mousse
Located a few hundred meters from Saint-Maur metro, in the Oberkampf, La Fine Mousse is the benchmark for Parisien bars serving beer. Here you can forget classic drinks and instead discover over twenty beers. And if you're spoilt for choice, take some advice from one of the "bièrologues" over the counter or refer to the detailed map, indicating the subtleties of each beer as if it were a great wine. We also like the minimalist decor of the place with its white stone walls, its brown leather chairs and counter where beer taps line up.
Where? Fine Mousse, 6 avenue Jean Aicard 11th arrondissement
2. Les Trois 8
Since late 2013, Les Trois 8 has specialized in craft beer and organic wine. The owners source directly from brewers and offer a selection of eight drinks to suit all budgets. Food lovers can also enjoy a good plate of cold cuts and cheeses to accompany their discovery, along with the dulcet sounds of rock music or metal! Les Trois 8 were also elected best bar in 2014 by Time Out.
Where? Les Trois 8, 11 rue Victor Letalle, 20th arrondissement.
3. Le Bouillon Belge
Le Bouillon Belge, is THE place to be for discovering new drinks. The servers offer a hundred bottled beers and a dozen on tap, from white and brown beers through to fruit beers. To accompany your drink, there are always the Belgian French fries and the ambience of the place!
Where? Le Bouillon Belge, 6 rue Planchat, 20e arrondissement.
4. The Supercoin
Another good place for beer lovers. Located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, Supercoin offers dozens of bottled beers and drinks that change on tap, such as raw Franche-Comté or the now famous Agent Provocateur. Feeling peckish? Whilst you won't find any bar snacks the bartender allows you to bring your own groceries, which is a rareity to behold.
Where? Le Supercoin, 3 rue Baudelique, 18e arrondissement.
