Food is a main figure in Ayurveda, an Indian medical system establilshed well over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda aims to heal the body through food and healthy lifestyle habits. Essentially, by following its principles you are eating for health.
So how do you get started on this Ayurvedic path? With the help of Vishal Atreya, executive sous chef at The Imperial in New Delhi. Chef Vishal designed a spa menu full of Ayurvedic recipes for the hotel's 1911 restaurant.
These recipes from The Hindu are full of fresh produce, herbs, spices and fruit. You'll notice ginger on the menu, a spice which has long been used in traditional Indian and Chinese medicine. Other ingredients include mint, which aids the digestive system, and citrus, which helps boost immunity.
