Chef Tim Raue on How he Found Salvation in the Kitchen

Life is not about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself

Berlin-based chef, Tim Raue, has documented his rise from the gutters of his youth to reaching for the stars with his eponymous restaurant, in an honest new biography come cooking book: My Way.

In the book, Raue traces his journey back to childhood giving a brutally honest account of life as a street fighter to how he turned himself around as an apprentice chef, and the salvation the kitchen bought him.

Rounding off with 70 Asian-influenced recipes from his restaurant seems a fitting conclusion, set against the rich visual backdrop of 180 photos, of his family, Berlin and Singapore (his culinary inspiration). Raue also thoughtfully includes 45 recipes for gourmet essentials like broths, sauces and infusions for those unfamiliar with basics.

The well travelled chef has been attributed with putting Germany back in the game when it comes to world cuisine, with his Berlin restaurant, Tim Raue, ranking 34 in the World's 50 Best Restaurants. He's best known for his fusion cooking putting an Asian spin on Western ingredients, which has seen him admired by the likes of The New York Times food critic, Frank Rich as well as three Michelin star chef of Benu, Corey Lee.

The inspired and moving account of a man determined to cook is testament to Raue's philosophy: "Life is not about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself."
