Tyler Kord, chef-owner of the acclaimed New York, No. 7 restaurant and No.7 Sub shops has penned his first sandwich recipe book with the out there title: "A Super Upsetting Book About Sandwiches."

Half an ode to his love of decadent sandwiches with suitably mouth–watering photos and recipes to match, half an opportunity for personal musings and anecdotes, Kord has managed to imbue each page of the eclectic cookbook with his irreverent style: "Careless ruminations on sandwich philosophy, love, self-loathing, Lil' Wayne, getting drunk in the shower, Tom Cruise, food ethics, and what it's like having the names of two different women tattooed on your body. Most of these ruminations also happen to be truly excellent recipes."

While a playful flavour is reflected in his bespoke sandwich recipes, with names like Don't cry for me Argentina, some comments are less sanguine. Kord reminds readers to be mindful of their squid sourcing credentials and to think outside their two slices of bread come sandwich building time.

Off the cuff digressions add to the fun tone of the book and do little to distract from the totally mind–blowing and delicious–looking sandwiches like roast beef with crispy shallots and smoky French dressing, or a mayonnaise that tastes exactly like pho.

Tyler Kord is chef-owner of the No. 7 restaurant group, with his first restaurant being named one of the top 10 new restaurants in the country by Bon Appetit. He also and attended the French Culinary Institute, and has worked under the likes of Alain Sailhac and Jean Georges Vongerichten.

Available in bookshops or online from June 14.
