Introducing the World's First Pure Milk Vodka: Black Cow

You might have heeded passed advice to drink milk to line the stomach before a big night out, but what about getting the best of both worlds, by drinking a vodka that's made from milk, once you're out. Enter Black Cow, the world's first vodka made purely from fresh cow's milk.

In a small rural pocket of South West England, a dairy farmer, Jason Barber, has come up with the unconventional idea of making the most of the milk from his 250-strong herd, by turning it into vodka. Named ‘Black Cow’ his distilled spirit is the only vodka in the world made entirely from milk, and unsurprisingly, goes extremely well with a slice of West Country Cheddar.

Barber's inspiration came, in part, from learning about techniques used by Mongolians to make rudimentary alcohol from animals, which he adapted to his farm and herd, and has never looked back since. Black Cow vodka is now sold around the world as well as in one of Britain’s most respected national supermarkets.

What does it taste like?

Nothing like milk, but thanks to the whole fresh milk it's made from the finish is 'exceptionally smooth vodka with a unique creamy character.'

A visit to the website also reveals a number of good looking cocktails.

How is it made?

Made from the same milk that is used to make West Country Cheddar the curds go into the tasty cheese while the whey is fermented into a beer using a special yeast that converts the milk sugar into alcohol. Distillation and a secret blending process follow before the vodka is triple filtered and finished, then hand bottled.
