Photographer Klaus Enrique wanted to take pictures of portraits made with food, flowers, plants and other objects. But he was disappointed to find out that someone else had already had his extraordinary idea - 400 years ago.

After studying the intricate art of 16th century Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Enrique decided that imitation was the best form of flattery. Thus, his new idea was to recreate and photograph Arcimboldo's masterpieces.

The result is his Arcimboldo Series, an ode of the great master of optical illusions. Each image was recreated using the same exact materials depicted in Arcimboldo's paintings - with materials ranging from eggshells and vegetables to grapes, flowers and bowls.

Below is some of Enrique's work but you can see more on his website. If you'd like to compare his work to the originals, check out his photo gallery of Arcimboldo's paintings.
