United States President Barack Obama is making history by being the first president to have beer brewed in the White House. The White House honey ale is made with honey that is produced in beehives kept in the White House South Lawn, near the First Lady's vegetable garden.

The White House beer has been served at several presidential gatherings and might make some rounds during the summer, especially around the 4th of July when the nation celebrates its independence. According to theObama Foodarama blog, the president himself does not brew the beer. Of course, he's too busy with his administrative duties so he lets the White House chefs take care of the brewing process.

The Obamas are certaintly making a mark in the food of the nation and not just through beer. Michelle Obama was recently honored in Italy with an honorary olive tree for her Let's Move campaign against obesity. The First Lady is also celebrating the release of her first book American Grown, which tells the story of the White House kitchen garden.
