How many licks does it take to form an ice cream orchestra?
New York-based designers Carla Diana and Emilie Lucie Baltz have an interesting answer to that question. The dynamic duo teamed up with Arone Dyer of the Brooklyn-based duet Buke & Gase to create Lickestra, an out-of-this-world ice cream orchestra.
The Lickestra features flavored ice creams on pedestals that make a sound every time they are licked. Music ranges from "deep baselines to high-pitched ringing tones, which create a symphony when played together" and "an abstract melody when only one person is independently licking their cone," Design Boom reports. The four-piece band keeps playing until all the ice cream has been licked away.
To make the ice cream orchestra a reality the artists relied on technology similar to the one employed in creating a vegetable piano. It's the type of whimsical technology we can envision acclaimed Spanish pastry chef Jordi Roca using at his avant-garde ice cream shop Rocambolesc.
