It's tough being out in the wild, camping on a frozen lake and waiting for the next catch. What's an ice-bound fisherman to do when he wants beer but there's no liquor store in sight? Have a drone deliver beer, of course!
Drone beer delivery has become a reality thanks to Lakemaid Beer, the Fishermen's Lager. The company has tested beer drone delivery of its Frosty Winter Lager, which is perfect for ice fishing season, over frozen lakes in Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Fort Mills Times reports. So far, the results seem promising.
Jack Supple, president of Lakemaid Beer Company, explained the inner workings of a beer drone delivery:
“Dense urban locations present a host of problems to drone delivery. But our tests are on vast, wide-open frozen lakes free of trees and power lines. Our drone can fly as the crow flies, straight to our target, based on GPS coordinates provided by an ice angler.
Fish houses are very uniform in height, so we can fly lower than FAA limits, too...It’s the perfect proving ground for drone delivery/ Our initial tests on several mid-size lakes have been very successful. We’re looking forward to testing the range of our drones on larger lakes,'' he told the Fort Mill Times.
