A new app called 'Dish Freely' has launched. The idea is that the app will help to connect gluten free eaters who can share tips and advice on great places to find gluten free food dishes. Harnessing user ratings and suggestions the app sorts gluten free foods by dishes or restaurants, providing useful information for those who suffer from a gluten intolerance.
The app Launched in February and at the moment is only available in New York but the company behind it, Grande Labs, say it will be rolled out to other cities very soon. With around 3% of the American population having some form of gluten intolerance there is certainly a market for it.
Gluten free eaters are a highly active community, with specific recipes sites and gluten free blogs becoming very popular. When you live by a very strict diet it helps to offer tips to others and all share great ingredients finds - which is why this app has a great chance of success.
It not only allows people to highlight great gluten free dishes but also rate them on how they taste - so rather than just accepting a meal because of its lack of gluten, users now have the choice of finding a gluten free dish that is also tasty. A sort of Tastespotting with a gluten free angle.
