A Camp Stove That Could Change the World

Back in 2012 we highlighted the launch of the BioLite campfire stove that that could also charge gadgets thanks through harnessing the heat generated by the fire.

The gadget proved hugely successful and now the company are back with a bigger and better version.

The BioLite BaseCamp is a big grill cooker peered by wood. Like their first product, it captures energy generated from heat and uses it to power a light on the side of the grill and to charge a range of gadgets through a USB charger.

The new design also comes fitted with a display that shows just how hot the fire is so users can manage what they choose to charge and for how long.

On top of being a great device for camping trips the stove is set to make its biggest impact in emerging countries where access to electricity can be difficult. It’s currently being tested in thousands of homes in Ghana, India and Uganda.

The video below explains the project in detail. You still have time to back the project on Kickstarter, adding to their already swelling investment of $310,000 of a $45,000 goal.
