If the you like the idea of enjoying fish and sustainable sushi without giving up taste, what’s a little more difficult is understanding which dishes don’t include at-risk species. To better understand marine biodiversity, the three main American organizers for the defense and conservation of oceans (the Blue Ocean Institute, Environmental Defense Fund and the Monterey Bay Aquarium) offer various tools to teach us to eat fish in an ethical way.

They’ve collaborated in the publication of the guide, The Seafood Watch Sushi Pocket Guide, which can be downloaded in pdf from the site, rich in suggestions on how and what to order at a sushi restaurant. They also provide an application - called Seafood Watch - for iPhone and Android, and also have a search engine that will help you find out where the fish you’ve ordered came from. There’s also a country-by-country guide, personalized for local production.
