Sensory Dining in Shanghai

The Ultraviolet restaurant in Shangai is like no other. Run by French chef Paul Pairet, Ultraviolet offers diners food that is paired with a number of multi-sensory technologies.

Diners have no idea of the restaurants location and are asked to meet at a location in Shanghai before being picked up and taken to the restaurant. There's lights on the floor, projections on the walls and even scent diffusers.

We recently brought you news of the Roca brother's plans to build a culinary opera at their restaurant in Girona, Spain - their idea is to build a multi-sensory dining room in which guests are submitted to art, music and food in a mix of all the disciplines in an underground restaurant below their herb garden.

It seems the Rocas are not the only ones exploring the idea that combining dining with multi-sensory elements is a great way to widen the experience people have when dining.
