A Supper Club Round Up

Supper clubs are everywhere you just need to know where to look. Here's a round up of some of the Supper Clubs on offer and a some useful resources to help find a club in your area.

In the North of England in the city of Leeds there's The Secret Tea Room. Run by Lynn Hill who is described by guests as one of the best bakers in Britain, this club comes with afternoon tea, cake and other sweet delights showing that these underground movements are not all about 3-course meals.  The event has been running since 2010 and clubs are fully booked with a waiting list of over 60 people. The delights prepared at the event are recorded on Lynn's blog and she also runs The Clandestine Cake Club a community of like minded bakers who meet up at secret locations around the country and swap baked goodies.

This private dining supper club in Paris offers high end food and wines to around 16 people a serving. Started by American couple Laura and Braden who have both worked as consultants to the restaurant and food industry. Braden worked for Tom Douglas at his restaurant the Dahlia Lounge and Laura worked at Theo Chocolate in Seattle - so both have professional kitchen experience. Located close to the Louvre  and offering a ten course tasting menu with locally sourced fresh ingredients, the menu at this club is closer to that of a Michelin restaurant than someone's front room.


Taking place in an East London flat the club is the brain child of Spanish born Simon Fernandez and Vietenmese, Uyen Luu. The pair met in 2008 when Simon gatecrashed Uyen's dinner party and they went on to form the secret supper club. The menu varies at the clubs with themed nights such as 'The Last Supper' and 'Morning Glory'. They also offer personal menus for private parties if required. A well established club with lots of rave reviews online makes this one of London's stand out dining experiences. They also offer cooking classes for anyone who wants to pick up some new skills in the kitchen.

You would be excused for thinking this club was run by a couple called Ted and Amy but in fact the New York club is actually organised by Kara Masi in her Brooklyn apartment. The name is in fact a homage to two local cooks Ted Allen and Amy Sedaris. The club has been running since 2008 and hosts several dinners a month for groups of 10-14 people. The interesting spin on this club is that they are usually co-hosted by chefs and food bloggers who are invited to contribute to the meal. The aim of this club, as well as providing a comfortable and convinial place for people to dine, is to encourage people to cook food in their own home and highlight how easy it can be to prepare a delicious meal.

This is another dining club that's worth mentioning as it's a little different to the norm. Hosted within the home of Washington girl, Geeta, the food on offer is vegetarian Indian cuisine. The interesting catch to this club is that each dish placed on the table comes with a story explaining the meal's origins and the religious significance of particular dishes. The food predominatly comes from the northwestern state of Gujarat and diners are encouraged to bring along an amecdote, musical instrument or a joke to share with the food at the table. The idea of supper and storytelling at the same time makes this a dining experinece like no other, a must try for anyone in the Washington area.
