Northern Ireland: a Walking Tour of the Local Cuisine

If like Israel Armstrong, the protagonist of the Mobile Library series written by Ian Sansom, you would like to sample some of the locally produced food on offer in Northern Ireland there are a number of options available.

The NI Good Food Company is a group set up with the sole purpose of promoting the traditional foods of Northern Ireland. And they feature a wealth of resources on their site.

Belfast Bred
This is a walking tour that of Belfast and claims to offer a fascinating culinary history of the city. Led by Barney, a chef from RMS Titanic, who was thawed out after a huge iceberg melted - the tour is an ingredient hunt around belfast to gather all the flavours needed to recreate the the Titanic's famous launch dinner.

Done with all the wit of the irish this is an intimate, exciting tour that's a must if you want to learn more about traditional Northern Irish food.

Tours leave Sawers Deli, College Street at 10am and end in St. Georges Market at 12.30pm, every Friday and Saturday from 16th April 2010. Tickets: 15 pounds per person.
