A New Food Market for Copenhagen

Copenhagen is getting a new food market in the historic meatpacking district of the city, Kødbyen. The Food Market will open Saturday April 4th and is set to sell everything from Danish oysters to sourdough pizzas and even dim sum.

The new place will offer a weekly food market with the promise that ‘stall costs will be kept as low as possible to attract traders who sell honest food’. Stalls will also be able to be booked by traders for a day rate on Saturdays allowing those with specialist goods to still have a platform too sell products.

The project is being managed by three friends Christian Lundgraard Astorp, Simon Bacon Aldinger Kullegaard and Jacob Uhd Jepsen who say the project and flexible booking system they have built for stall owners is all about ‘making it easy and accessible for the pioneers behind the stalls’.

They say the way in which the stalls will operate means people will never be ‘greeted by quite the same selection of stalls.’ It’s an interesting way of proposing a market and one that certainly makes it easier for seasonal and niche producers to gain an entry point and sell their goods.

The Kødbyens Mad & Marked market opens Saturday April 4th and will run every Saturday until September 26th.The friends also plan to host monthly Sunday markets around different themes.
