Simply Crispy: The Crisp Sandwich Cafe

Jumping on the back of the success of London’s first Cereal Cafe - a place that serves a huge range of different breakfast cereals, a business owner in Belfast is hoping to achieve success with his pop-up cafe that sells crisp sandwiches.

It may not be anywhere near the world of Fine Dining but there’s something to be said for those nostalgic bite that take us back to being a child, two pieces of bread packed with a packet of crisps apparently being one of them.

The Simply Crispy cafe was started by Andrew McMenamin who of That Wee Cafe in Belfast, who read a satirical article by The Ulster Fry which joked about the idea of a hipster driven crispy cafe. Mcmenamin was so into the idea he contacted The Ulster Fry and said he wanted to host the concept as a pop-up.

Customers are given a choice of bread and around 30 different styles of crisps, this is served alongside some soup and chips, just to add to the carbs, and customers can also add cheese or ham to their sandwich - a classic move respected by all crisp sandwich aficionados.

It might sound totally mental but after the first day of business Andrew McMenamin said he sold out in under two hours. Who knows, it may even become a permanent things, the Cereal Cafe seems to be doing well.
