With little bit of planning on your part, you can explore the food scene like a local and make the most out of your trip.

The Food of the Cape Tour by CoffeebeansRoute Tours delves into the history of the Cape, exploring the food of the Cape Malay people who arrived in South Africa as slaves.
Visitors will get to walk through the colourful Malay neighbourhood called the Bo Kaap, visit a local spice store and be hosted to lunch in a Cape Malay home.

The tour continues exploring the African food influences in the Cape with a visit to a restaurant at the Women’s market - Kenyan, Somalian, Nigerian cuisines and more. Come very hungry.

Slow Food Mother City is an affiliate of the Slow Food Movement and depending on season and availability they organise monthly excursions, with the purpose of educating the consumer, reducing waste and facilitating greener choices.

A mushroom, chestnut, veld (wild) forage excursion are some of the trips held thus far. They have also hosted fun events like an artisanal sweet market and craft beer festival. Keep an eye on their calendar when you plan your trip.
