Portugal’s Presidential Train has welcomed royalty, heads of state and the Pope on board in its near 130-year history. Now lovingly restored to former glories, it hosts luxury gourmet experiences featuring some of the world’s best chefs.
For its second edition in May 2017, The Presidential will be embarking on a series of gastronomic tours through Northern Portugal’s wine producing Alto Douro region. Starting and ending at Porto’s São Bento station, each trip will take nine hours to wind its way through the breathtaking Alto Duoro, including a scheduled stop at the Quinta do Vesuvio estate for port tasting.
On board, guests will be treated to a four-course tasting menu from a different Michelin starred chef each week, with local wine pairing. The chefs confirmed for May are Esben Holmoe Bang of Oslo’s Maaemo, Norway's only three star restaurant (3-7 May), local star chef Pedro Lemos (10 and 11 May), and João Rodrigues of Lisbon’s one Michelin star Feitoria restaurant – one of the most talked about names on Portugal’s contemporary dining scene (12-14 May).
Tickets cost €500 per person and are available from The Presidential website. If you don't manage to secure a seat this time, dont worry, the next edition is in October.
