If you love cakes, get your bake on at the King Cake festival in New Orleans 2019 on 27 January in New Orleans.
Taking place in Champion's Square, the annual giant bake-off, showcases a selection local bakeries whipping up batches of this colourful sweet pastry to celebrate a slice of history, plus raising money for charity, the Ochsner Hospitals for Children.
King Cake Competitions
There are also prizes up for grabs, awarded to the best cakes in town like, "Best Presentation", Most Unique, Best traditional and best non-traditional. Flavours like key lime croissant king cake, pumpkin cannoli king cake and even a king cake burger were on last year's winner's lists and lips.
What are king cakes?
Never tried a king cake? Here's your chance to try this regal cake steeped in history and made of sweet brioche dough twisted into a ring and topped with coloured icing sugar and sprinkles.
The cakes often have a small trinket or figurine, which the lucky grants the lucky finder special privileges.
Don't miss the 4th Annual King Cake Festival on January 29th in Champions Square! @ochsnerhealth leaders are meeting today and we knew we had to bring some #kingcake for them to snack on during break.
