1) Rebild Bakker, Denmark
Join thousands of Danes in one of the largest Independence celebrations outside of the USA since 1912 (in the picture at the top). The event has previously attracted the likes of Richard M. Nixon, Walt Disney and George Bush who have attended to enjoy a delicious spread of Danish and American cuisine. Click here for more information.
2) Milan and Rome, Italy
Expo Milano 2015 is currently and the USA Pavilion is flying the flag high for 4th July. With over 140 countries located at the event the USA will take centre stage on their big day. Walk in the footsteps of recent fellow American visitors including Michelle Obama. Join in picnicking on the USA Pavilion roof amongst other festivities.
Back in the heart of the Milan, The James Beard Restaurant will be hosting a special July 4th dinner prepared by 3-Michelin-Star chef Massimo Bottura.
Rome will be host to a home-town style outdoor picnic through the American International Club of Rome using local ingredients and some American favourites with all the fixings.
3) London, UK
If you can overlook the details of whom Independence was actually declared from in 1776, beer and a BBQ are all good healers, and Londoners sure know how to throw a good party. The Strongroom Bar (120-124 Curtain Road, EC2A 3SQ London, UK) are celebrating with an American beer festival and Texas BBQ Grill.
If rubbing shoulder with the Brits is all too much here’s one only open to US citizens: Independence Day Picnic (Portman Square, London, UK, W1H 7BH). Run by the Democrats the party takes place on Sunday 6 rather than the day itself and is set to include a barbecue with burgers and hot dogs, a tug-of-war, crafts for kids and live music.
4) Moscow, Russia
The American Chamber of Commerce reputedly throws one of the biggest parties outside of the USA, as host of the Independence Day celebrations in Russia. This year promises a host of sporting events from polo to arm wrestling, various workshops and water melon and hot dogs.
5) Shanghai, China
Like its counterpart in Moscow, the AmCham Shanghai Independence celebration is a popular venue for thousands of attendees celebrating the Fourth. Don’t miss the watermelon-eating contest.
