Often touted as the next stage for haute cuisine, Latin America is geting a visit from one of the best chefs in the world. Ferran Adrià of elBulli fame will be in Ecuador next week to deliver a speech on creativy, innovation and avant-garde cuisine.

Adrià will visit Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where he will be the keynote speaker at a conference on June 12 at the Ágora de la Casa de la Cultura. The free event kicks off at 5:30 pm and is sponsored by Telefónica Movistar, the Spanish telecommunications giant supporting Adrià's BulliPedia project.

The chef has an extensive background when it comes to public speaking. He's lectured at Harvard University, René Redzepi's MAD Symposium and at the Wired conference earlier this year. He's expected to share his views on revolutionizing gastronomy and why creativy and research matter.

''The biggest revolution in gastonomy in the past 10 years has been its acceptance into universities, and universities have warmly welcomed it,'' the chef told Ecuadorian publication El Comercio.

As a chef who developed his very own style of cuisine at elBulli, which earned him three Michelin stars and the prestige of being named the world's best restaurants five times, he defies tradition. ''Tradition changes...what is tradition? Does it go back 100 or 500 years...what do you think?''
