Rick Bayless and Daniel Humm were among the culinary pioneers honored last night at The Augie Awards gala hosted by the Culinary Institute of America

The Augie awards are given to chefs and culinarians who exemplify innovation and leadership. They are named in honor of Auguste Escoffier, known as the father of modern French cuisine.

Bayless, owner of Frontera Grill, Topolobampo and XOCO in Chicago, was honored for his understanding of world cuisines and culture. His dedication to Mexican cuisine earned him Mexico's highest honor last year.

Humm was given an Augie award for his dedication to culinary excellence and innovation. His Manhattan restaurant Eleven Madison Park ranks 10th on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list, which is sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.

Other honorees included Orlando's Clifford Pleau, corporate executive chef at Seasons 52, and Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods. Pleau was awarded for promoting health and wellness on restaurant menus while Robb received an award for his commitment to sustainability and food ethics.
