Last night's electrifying debut of El Somni, the gastro-opera by The Roca Brothers - was attended by a dozen VIP diners including Ferran Adrià and American cookbook author and researcher Harold McGee.
Spanish newspaper El País reports that other guests included Indian actress Freida Pinto, Indian filmmaker and director Nandita Das, painter Miquel Barceló, poet and essayist Rafael Argullos, orchestra director Josep Pons, and researcher and engineer Abderrahmane Khedar.
Research biologist Ben Lehner, HIV researcher Bonaventura Clotet, theoretical physicist Lisa Randall, and anthropologist Joel Candau were also on the guest list.
All of the guests arrived at the Arts Santa Mònica in Barcelona by bus and were greeted by a swarm of press as you can see in the video below courtesy of La Vanguardia.
The video is entirely in Spanish but gives you a glimpse of how El Somni was orchestrated by The Roca Brothers and graphic artist Franc Paleu. Josep Roca says the culinary opera was conceived as a type of creative dialogue to enrich the dining experience. Singer singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz decribes how she channeled her energy to bring the opera's mermaid to life.
El Somni was definitely a treat for the senses featuring 12 courses over a span of 12 acts, each one paired with its own wine, music and tantalizing imagery projected on the table.
The edible opera will be hosted at 12 different locations around the world and is set to become a book, an exhibit and a film by Mediapro.
