In this enlightening video from The Chef’s Connection you see Le Bernardin’s Eric Ripert at his most zen. The stellar chef talks about being humble, what it means to be a Buddhist and how he believes emotions affect cooking.

Ripert, whose restaurant ranks 19th on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, offers a few nuggets of wisdom about life in and out of the kitchen. For one, he says staying humble is essential. “Everyday, if you are successful in life, you are tempted to believe the compliments that you receive,” he says, explaining why he chooses to keep his feet on the ground.

When it comes to his cooking philosophy the chef says he wants his employees to be happy, not scared or stressed because those emotions will be reflected in the food. The chef is a bit shy about sharing his religious beliefs but he sums it all up saying that Buddhism is about "finding true happiness and making sure you are having a good impact on your surroundings and the people that work with you.”
