Ever since we broke the news last summer of The Roca Brothers' culinary opera El Somni we've been excited to see how it will turn out. Now, here's a video preview of what lucky diners will experience once the opera debuts on Monday May 6th at the Arts Santa Mònica in Barcelona.

Brothers Joan, Josep and Jordi have worked very hard to craft El Somni, alongside the visual artist Franc Aleau, which is described in the video as a ''12 course opera, 12 act banquet with 12 very special guests and 12 emotional wines.''

They presented the 'excercise in experimentation' to press and media on Monday at The Mandarin Hotel in London where they said it would focus on 16 essential culinary concepts, including History, Memory, Landscape, Chromatism, Poetry, the brother's trademark Sense of Humor and more.

The Roca Brothers collaborated with a range of talented artists from many disciplines to create El Somni with Joan Roca saying that it, "allowed us to advance and grow and set challenges that up until now we have not set ourself."

One of these collaborations was with Daniel Molina and Pere Grife who helped to develop the stunning plates for the opera which can be seen in the video below.

They say that El Somni, which is a homage to the French chef François Vatel who is rumored to have killed himself with his own sword in 1671 because he was so distraught that a fish delivery for his banquet was late, will operate as a traveling charitable project set in different locations, adding: "This opera has got to be done in a charitable way, it's not a business, we want to enrich ourselves."

They will also release a documentary about the creation of El Somni, allowing more people to enjoy the results of such a diverse cross collaboration.

El Somni promises to be an multi sensory dining experience that transports you to a completely different dimension - something the Roca's hope will provoke instant reactions. If the video below is anything to go by we'd say they're on the right track.

The brother's restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, was just awarded the title of the best restaurant in the world in the 2013 World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, which are sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.
