Spanish chef, Ferran Adria, number one on The World's 50 Best Restaurants List five times and a former Lifetime Achievement winner, has just returned from a trip to China.

The chef visited the Cervantes Institute in Beijing and delivered a speech on culinary innovation and creativity. Telling audiences "there are no strange foods, only strange people".

Three of Ferran's former chefs have also announced plans to launch their own restaurant. Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas were all chef de cuisines at elBulli and yesterday released their plans to open an informal restaurant called Compartir, in the town of Cadaqués, Spain. The idea of the food will be to offer a wide variety with an ethos of diners sharing dishes at the table.

Heston Blumenthal - The Fat Duck - England

The British chef Heston Blumenthal is a busy boy with new stories breaking daily about the chefs activity it can be hard to follow where and what he is doing at any given time. After the news of his new interactive sweet shop experience, him being asked to carry the Olympic torch and now his picnic for the Queen.

The chef, who placed 5 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2011, will create a five-course picnic for around 13,000 people to celebrate the Queen of England's Diamond Jubilee. The chef has taken on some tough challenges in his time - from trying to make airline food taste better to trying to make a cake explode - but this new challenge of marking what will be the Queen's biggest ever celebration will be a challenge that may even have Heston a little worried.
