The Worlds 50 Best Restaurants, A List of The Newcomers

The global food community is still abuzz with the excitement over last night's announcement of the 2013 World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, which are sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.

The big news of the night was that El Celler de Can Roca in Spain took the top spot while Denmark's Noma slipped to number two. You can find the full list of the winners here but we'd like to highlight some new entries in the prestigious list.

At number 21, we find Ben Shewry's Attica in Melbourne, Australia. The restaurant focuses on local and seasonal ingredients with an imaginative twist. Here's a colorful seafood recipe Shewry was kind enough to share with FDL.

Restaurant Andre in Singapore came in at number 38. Chef André Chiang creates French nouvelle cuisine using artisinal ingredients with a Mediterranean touch.

Italian chef Umberto Bombana is behind the successful 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hong Kong, which ranked 39th on the list.

The 41st spot on the list belongs to Enrico Crippa (pictured below), chef of the acclaimed Piazza Duomo located in the Alba, Italy - a town famous for its truffles.

Shanghai's Mr. & Mrs. Bund came in at number 43. The restaurant is run by Paul Pairet, who specializes in preparing bistro dishes with a modern twist.

In spot number 46 we find Helena Rizzo (pictured below), a model-turned-chef who runs Mani restaurant in Sao Paulo.

Septime in France took the 49th spot. The restaurant is run by Bertrand Grebaut, a chef who draws inspiration for his bistro food from his travels through Asia.

Last but not least, the 50th place belongs to Virgilio Martinez, chef at Central restaurant in Lima, Peru.
