How to make koulouria, sesame and honey sweet bread - a traditional Greek food and one of the most ancient Greek recipes
Preheat oven to 180°C.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, dry yeast, sea salt, honey and olive oil.
Knead to combine the ingredients.
Gradually add the water to make a dough.
Flour a clean work bench and knead the dough for 5 minutes.
Set the dough aside in a warm place for 30 minutes to proof.
Place the sesame seeds on a large plate or baking tray.
When the dough has doubled in size, divide it into 10 portions.
Roll each into thin sausage-like shapes about 40cm long.
Dip them in a tray filled with warm water.
Roll in the sesame seeds.
Press the ends firmly together to form a ring.
Place each one on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
