Giant Heads Made of Food And Trees

Channeling the great 16th century Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo, contemporary artist Philip Haas has created four giant heads made of out trees, fruits, vegetables and other organic materials. The heads, which symbolize the four seasons will be exhibited at the New York Botanical Garden from May 18th through October 27th.

The 15-foot tall structures were made from materials representing each time of the year. For instance, the summer head is made of flowers and autumn is packed with harvest vegetables. The huge heads will be arranged in square form, facing each other, in the courtyard of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

''We are thrilled to present Philip Haas's remarkable Four Seasons here at The New York Botanical Gardens. This body of work is ideal for the garden and it speaks to the present, while reflecting on the past,'' said Gregory Long, Chief Executive Officer of the New York Botanical Garden.
